Follow The Money...
I'm not naive, but I do think that the Supreme Court's decision to remove any controls over where the money comes from in political campaigns was definitely a mistake. Granted, so many of those on that Court right now are there thanks to downright dishonesty, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
But one wonders if the flow of money into the various campaign arms of the Republican Party include some from old Vladie Putin, that party animal who doesn't know history or seem to understand global politics. Because I mean invading a smaller country based on a bald-faced lie because he needs the space, well, let's see. Didn't work so well for Hitler, so I would think someone who was aware of fairly recent history would be ... well, a little smarter.
Putin isn't. Mostly, I suppose my biggest clue was in his suggesting that the Jewish leader of this other country was a Nazi. I do believe there is an internet rule which is pretty clear about "invoke 'Nazis' and lose the argument - and any legitimacy". But hey, we live in the real world, not the internet.
But when I see headlines such as "if the Republicans re-take the House, they're going to reconsider aid to Ukraine." When I was younger, America was all about the underdog. That's not Putin, in this case, but I do understand where the current majority of the Republican Party is either insane or in slavish worship of the Orange Jesus. Mind you, that blonde comb-over never fooled me. Never watched a single episode of his television series, despite the extremely rare occasion where someone I kind of liked might have participated. Why not? Well, I didn't find him or his enterprises particularly interesting, or worthwhile. Let's be honest, the man failed in the Casino business. That's a pretty clear sign that either the Mafia has it in for you, or you're just piss-poor in business. And if the first case is the fact, well, he's still alive. So the first case most obviously is not the fact.
But when a political party raises into deity status an old doddering actor who couldn't be bothered to keep an eye on the subordinates, there's one problem. When they're willing to sell out every single ounce of credibility, morality, or decency and follow the Orange Jesus to the gates of hell themselves, well, there's the problem. I don't think the fringes running the parties these days are particularly interested in anything other than power. Sad fact is that if you cannot find a compromise, you have no power. You have no credibility, no vision, and sure as hell not an ounce of good character at all.
So those lunatics who run the nuthouse, well, I'm sure they're getting ready to howl they've won, the contest was fouled, the vote was unfair, and they didn't get an honest chance. Fact is there are more than a few of them who not only don't deserve an honest chance, they're also not serving the terms they're due in prison.
But what the heck, it's politics as usual. Far too many of them are interested in filling their own pockets, not doing the public good. And spare me. Mitch the Turtle's wife does stock deals during the pandemic that make her family millions. I'm sure she never speaks to her husband at all. Right.
Please, I need another barf bag. These people are making me sick.
