Thomas Bach, IOC
Well, I learned something today. Here I was thinking that the IOC in Thomas Bach's title stood for International Olympic Committee. Turns out it's Idiot Out Clueless.
Seems Bach is not a student of history OR the Olympic movement, as it turns out. I'm sure everyone remembers the 1940 and 1944 Olympic games. You know, those great huge gatherings of athletes and their coaches, trainers, support staff, and the like. 1940 was pretty disorganized, but the 1944 games turned out to be a pretty solid offensive to permit those athletes to end the Second World War.
Bach should, I suppose, be forgiven for forgetting that it was HIS NATION which was the aggressor, which meant it was his home nation which took one hell of a beating. Mind you, they even lost in that regard to the Japanese, who took two pretty massive blows before they gave up. Germany just decided they'd had enough with the lunatic running the show after said lunatic died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
What's that? Those were wars, not Olympic games? Ain't that funny. Bach sure seems to think it's business as usual with the Russians invading, raping, stealing children, and generally being disgusting monsters in a land which is not theirs. It's occupied by people who are quite obviously superior to the Russians, in that most of the general population seems to be pretty capable of holding off the "trained" Russian military. I know, it's been said that quantity has a quality all it's own when it comes to war, but the thing is, if your quality of your quantity is as low as the Russians are, all you're doing is feeding a hell of a lot of your young people into the grinder, and what then happens is their relatives left behind, their ancestors, and their descendants all blame the leadership who encouraged them to go to war. And historically, that tends not to end well. Eventually, someone listens to the people who are unhappy, and decides to take matters into their own hands.
Sure, Old Vladdie Putin is surrounded by hand-picked guards. Every last one of them. And none of them have ANY relatives being fed into the meat grinder that Ukraine has become. Not a single man standing guard around Putin, I'm sure, has any confirmed association with any of those men dying for Putin's folly. But they're still heavily armed around old Vladdie.
My guess is that Vlad and Tom are members of the same clueless club. I don't see the Parisian Olympics to be successful in any way if the Russians and Belorussians are permitted to compete. They ought to be held as hostages, if they show up. Treat them well, keep them fed and isolated from others, but hold on to them until Russia admits what the rest of the world knows - they've failed in Ukraine - then they need to pay reparations and Vlad and his cronies need to be held responsible.
Barbaric? I don't really know. I think barbaric is to invade another country because you want more space. See Hitler, 1939, et. al. If a country the size of Russia isn't big enough for Vladdie, then we need to exile old Vladdie to a space which might be big enough. I do think that the surface of the moon might be enough space for old Vladdie. And all of his allies can join him. Their remaining supporters can then work out to send supplies - you know, air, water, food, etc. - to the moon for the knuckleheads. That is, assuming they haven't sent their remaining relatives and friends to gulags somewhere.
Yeah, over the top, I know, but Bach's idea to hold the Olympics like the world is in a normal spot with this going on is an idea that's about as attractive as me as a male stripper. Yup, went there, did that, and you're welcome for the mental image of a grossly overweight 59 year old man gyrating on stage naked. Sickening, isn't it? Yeah, for me too.
