That Stings...
I used to joke that I did not like taking time away from work, things tended to happen when I was gone.
As ever, so they do. And in the slightly unpleasant sort of variety.
Like the third email I read, of the fifty-odd in my in-box, this morning. Which noted that oh, by the way, kids, the overtime which had been free and clear for literally the last 18 months, which is now only by pre-approval...
It should have been expected, I suppose. Controls on hours were very tight up to when they rolled out our new primary software system, where I was one of the secondary adopter group. Most of my co-workers in that group got sent to the exit back about a year later, because a significant number of the sites we supported were also going the way of the dodo. Not as in totally extinct, just that they would not be providing the same level of service, which includes the stuff that needs my sort of help, any longer. Other locations would assist, if possible, in the area, but not a lot of them.
My experience over the past two years in transitioning clients to other providers where we could, and where we couldn't, transitioning them to internal locations, which I ended up responsible for, well, that's not irony - that's just a plain old "duh". Didn't work the way you thought it would, well, you get to clean up behind the camel anyway. Yeah. Like that.
Then there was the past year where folks like me were tasked with partnering with my former co-workers who were now part of the final group joining our new platform. I was a real-world expert - not as in I knew it all, just as in I'd seen more than they had, so I might have some insight on how to fix that seemingly strange glitch.
So yep, I got bit today. Looks like my paychecks will take a $300-400 per period hit for a while. Sure was nice when I could work until I was done. Today making those formerly forgotten choices, like "do I make this call now, or try tomorrow morning?" Not much point calling a location you know is going to take at least an hour to get you to someone who can help when you've only got 30 minutes left in your day - and Fridays tend to be the worst where I work - many folks seeking to go home from the hospital before the weekend. Been there, gotten stuck in the hospital for the entire weekend, so there is that, I suppose. It is what it is.
But I'll be behaving myself and doing a bit more work to keep myself out of trouble. Such as it is. And I do have a plumbing project I need to finish off. That'll be fun.
